Ben Wendel is a multi-faceted theatrical artist based in LoNdon.

“I want to give the audience a hint of a scene. No more than that. Give them too much and they won’t contribute anything themselves. Give them just a suggestion and you get them working with you. That’s what gives the theater meaning: when it becomes a social act.” - Orson Welles

Recently relocated to London from Los Angeles, Ben is excited to explore the unique London theatre scene, foster collaborations, ignite imaginations, and challenge themself and their art.

Ben’s recent LA directorial credits include The Arsonists at The Complex Theaters, Tourrorists at the 2022 Hollywood Fringe, Mother Courage and her Children, and The Laramie Project. They have also assisted Kate Burton on several Shakespeare productions with the University of Southern California Master of Fine Arts Year 2 classes.

Their directorial work takes inspiration from dance and clown work to explore the body onstage. Their training and work are based in Brechtian alienation, Viewpoints, and Grotowski's Poor Theatre. They believe theatre is at its most electric when an audience is asked to build along with the ensemble.

In addition, Ben has worked as a producer and technician on several productions, approaching each opportunity with a sense of professionalism, creative understanding, and technical know-how. Ben previously worked as a Production Manager for Pacific Resident Theater and as a freelance stage electrician, mostly at The Geffen Playhouse. Currently, they primarily work at South Hampstead High School as a technician, supporting the Drama and Events Departments.

They are an actor and have performed in Los Angeles and London. They find great joy in creating with others and possess a can-do attitude.
